The first thing you will need before travelling to Russia is a VISA. This is a document that is stamped in your passport to allow you entry to Russia - it is issued by Russian consulates worldwide and cannot be obtained on arrival in Russia. This is the document that you will need in order to obtain a tourist visa for travel to Russia and it can be booked and paid for online. Please note that this visa support letter is NOT a visa - it must be presented with your passport and application at your nearest Russian Consulate in order to otain a visa. The UEFA Champions League Cup Final in Moscow was an amazing event, when the Russian authorities waived visas for fans holding tickets for the match were allowed visa free entry to Russia - initially for a 72 hour period and subsequently for the extended period of 17-25 May. We assume that this was due to the inability of the visa service in the London Embassy to process the required number of visas in the relevant timescale. Thank goodness that common sense prevailed. We wonder if this may herald a change in attitude for future events? Maybe Eurovision will be the next big test in May 2009 - or maybe Sochi Winter Olympics? Whatever the case, visa free travel encouraged thousands of fans to travel to Moscow who would not otherwise have done so - and Russia received a massive and positive reaction among the thousands of press who descended upon the city. 72 Hours Visa free Regime for UEFA Cup Final Moscow!!
06 May 2008: We understand that Russia intends to introduce a visa free regime for the UEFA cup Final on 21 May. The match ticket will count as a visa support letter - and only applies to people staying less than 72 hours in Moscow. Ticket will be shown on ENTRY and DEPARTURE. Please check with your local consulate and with your airline. If in UK, please call Russian tourist Office to clarify - they are official agent for Rusisan Embassy in London for this event. Full Embassy statement: The Russian Authorities made a decision to establish a non-visa regime for British supporters traveling to Moscow Champion’s League final on 17 – 25 May. The said decision will be enforced by an Act which to be adopted in a term comfortably allowing the supporters to arrive for the game in time.
